How to Choose a Coffee Supplier in China: MOQ, Sampling and QC

China has become a major origin for wholesale coffee beans, but supplier quality varies widely. Use this checklist before signing anything.

1. Check their specialty experience

Ask how long they have been roasting and what certifications their team holds. Q-graders and experienced roasting masters usually mean better, more consistent product.

2. Verify sourcing and traceability

A good supplier should tell you exactly where each lot comes from - origin, farm or cooperative, altitude, processing. Traceability protects you from quality surprises and lets you tell honest stories to your customers.

3. Demand samples

Samples are non-negotiable. A supplier who hesitates to send samples is a red flag. Cup the samples against your current beans and check the roast date.

4. Clarify MOQ and pricing structure

Understand the minimum order quantity, how pricing scales with volume, and what freight terms apply. Ask about FOB and CIF so there are no surprises on the invoice.

5. Audit their QC process
